Don't get me on my soapbox Louis, this is the event the taxpayers are forking out tens of millions of dollars for. They have been and continue chopping down hundreds of trees, tearing up median strips and generally destroying the environmental showpiece that is Sydney Olympic Park.
Race cars belong on race tracks and Governments should look after the people not self interest groups. To hell with Nathan Rees, Ian McDonald and V8 Supercars Australia. And a special ticket to hell for the State Member for Auburn Barbara Perry, the invisible, silent woman except when advertising herself as "here to help" every week in the local paper!
My $0.02
Cheers

14 EOS 2.0 TSI has arrived!
Dead right! LOL And even if I didn't, I'd still oppose it on the basis of the massive amount of taxpayer funds going into the event and the rape and pillage of SOP.
Taxpayers forked out tens of millions of dollars for a racetrack 15 minutes drive from SOP, why the hell could it not be held there?
Anyway, when is a race on a street circuit as good as a race on a proper race circuit?
Cheers

I've worked in V8 Supercars and toured with the championship... Bathurst aside, street races are by FAR the best events on the calender. Oran, the Creek, Winton, QR etc all pale in comparison to Adelaide, Indy, Hamilton and now this.
The V8s are great to watch live, plus there will also be utes, minis, stunt crews and the Australian GT championship. Don't tell me that Porsches, Vipers, 'Vettes, Gallardos, Moslers, Ferrari and Aston Martin won't get you going!
Personally, I love the way street circuits bring spectators up close to the action, and the concrete barriers practically amplify the sounds I love to hear.
Cold Chisel, The Living End, Grinspoon, The Presets, Sneaky Sound System and the Potbelleez will also be live in two concerts. It works out to be less than $50 a day too, which is pretty cheap considering the show they put on.
Politics etc aside, it's a brilliant weekend for petrolheads. I can't wait.

Wonder how the residents of Sutherland Shire would react to their streets, parklands and trees being destroyed for a motor race? Not to mention the months of traffic disruptions or the noise in a residential area.

Hey George! Swap you accomodation for the weekend mate!! I would love to get up there to see the spectacle.
Adelaide was a great circuit to go to, and the V8 meeting there would run second to Bathust.
I realise there are a lot of V8 Supercar haters on here but to me racing is racing and I find the closer it is the better.
Geez,I have even managed to stay awake a couple of times while watching F1 this year...

Hey Andrew,
Starting a new job in a couple of weeks, based in SOP area incidentally so won't be able to get time off at the time the race is on. Missus is talking about taking a trip to Tassie Xmas/ New Year if my new employer closes down for the break. Hope we can catch up again of it happens.
I'm not a V8 supercar hater, just hate the desecration of the park and the expenditure of public money on car racing instead of necessities like hospitals, schools, public transport etc. while the purpose built facility stands idle.
Cheers
George
