i don't want to do a uni course that i get s*it all paid??? whats the point.

and teachers in our school oh " do what you will enjoy" i dream of being a doctor...but it will never happen.

so I'm going to do engineering. It sounds fun and interesting. Good pay to if you get in with the big boys.

dr's dont get payed as much as youd think (well alot dont anyway). most who work for queensland health only earn around 140k a year , i know it sounds alot but when you factor in medical insurance (f#cking expensive ) that aint alot , hell my brother earns more then that. unfortunatly you have to own your own practice go rural or go high expertise (neurosurgery) before you get anywhere near the big bucks . working around dr's can yield some interesting conversations some times

The easyiest way to make big money is to steal it....so do a business degree. Its 12 contact hrs a week (engineering and design is like 10million hrs a week) and the enter is like 60 for VU. When you finish your avarage first wage is 45-60 depending on which path you take and the sky is the limit depending on how good you are. Its a very shifty industry though.
The richest people in the world arnt doctors or engineers or designers haha.

BUT...its a bit boring.

and we're both considered full time university students...

engineering isn't really for the feint hearted/those with big money in mind... mechanical engineering at USYD has nearly a 1/3 drop out rate by 2nd year, and it only requires something like 70..

thats fairly characteristic of most engineering courses though, with a handful of exceptions like bio.

Yes, its just men in engineering Gordo with a few women sprinkled throughout the faculty, its nowhere near as glamorous or interesting as it turns out to be...

Gordo, pick something that you will enjoy studying and corresponds with your own interests and what your good at. And don't worry if you don't get the marks you want for the course you want, because all you really need is to do well in the first semester and they'll let you pick what course you want to be in anyway.

Either that, or if your an attractive young girl they'll let you literally pick whatever you want to change to, in a single semester in regardless of your mark

Do what you love doing, if you have a passion for something follow it. A lot of people who earn loads of money are working crazy hours and are under enormous stress. I'd rather earn less and enjoy life a bit more, follow what I love.

But the problem is... i dont know what i love doing..

I've only worked on cars...and i LOVE it. But i'm not sure if i want to do that in my life.

Because, while I'm in school, might as well finish a course for something.

Also, i have family that are in the building environment, and i love maths..MORE THE LOVE...and thats why i want to do structural engineering or architecture.

Well, I've been either a uni student or uni staff member for pretty much the last 15 years (currently both) and I've haven't really seen anything like this (in my field I usually regard such things with suspicion).

My suggustion (I'm somewhat biased though) is a liberal arts degree (BA and the like) as it really gives you an education not just technical skills (*runs for cover*). Some unis like Uni of Melbourne only offer such generalist degrees at undergraduate level.

I didn't know what I wanted to do when I left school (still don't) but found a real love for humanities/social sciences, esp sociology and political philosophy -things not really taught in schools.

School results and the ENTER aren't necessarily a good indicator of success or capability at uni.

I didn't know what I wanted to do when I left school. I did 6 months TAFE in a mech eng diploma, then a month of an Apprenticeship in Electrical Fitting and Mechanics and realised I like language and communications so started a BA majoring in Journalism and Public Relations in 2007.

I really love PR and I can see myself actually enjoying my job now, while having the opportunity to support causes I feel are worthwhile.
