Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

correct me if im wrong here, but if something is working before you take it to a mechanic, and its not when you get it back, it shouldnt be at my cost to repair?

i had to get the heater core replaced as it was leaking into the passengers side.. apparently a big job that requires basically the whole dash to be ripped out.

got it back yesterday and all the accessories in the dash are in different spots and now the mechanic tells me the fog light switch is broken and costs about $120 from seat... why should i have to pay for the replacement if it was working before i took it there?!?!?

    I'd suggest calling consumer affairs.

I have had the same problem, took my car to a garage for electrical work, now I have no main beam headlights.

The problem is proving it worked before you took it in. your word against theres. Aint worth taking to small claims court.

Best thing is to cut your losses and never use the garage again.

It is hardly a consumers world out there....

The whole subject really annoys me, my car is still broken, I am 500 bucks lighter and the garage doesn't seem to even care that they won't get repeat work from me.

They just take your money and run, bloody infuriates me...

that was my first thought... but for $100 or so .. im thinking just learn from my last mistake and find another mechanic.. i only used the bloke again becuase i can walk home from there whilst its being worked on, and id already paid for the heater core in the last visit.

Mate it will cost you more to persue and you may not even get your money back.

Go get a 2nd hand switch if you can.

oh, did i mention that it took exactly a month to get the car back? i went to melbs for 8 days at the start of september.. figured i'd drop it off before i left and pick it up when i got back... took another 3 weeks after i got back to get it back..

OK, new topic for this thread.. what can i say to this bloke so he gets the message "your a flickwitt and am never coming back or recommending to others" (with different spelling) ?

From experience I can say that mentioning you reguarly post on a forum can sometimes help....not only are you telling your friends, but also the x number of members and lurkers on said forum.

I went heliboarding in NZ this year and the conditions were woeful and we didnt get the amount of runs in we were supposed to. After getting nowhere over the phone and being offered $100 refund we went into the shop front in person and basically said we were bitterly dissapointed with the experience and I'd be writing about it on the most popular ski site in Australia and NZ - ended up getting around $400 back.
