What is the best handling car you have ever driven?

My mate's Mazda MX5 would have to have been the best handling car I've ever driven, but before then a FIAT 124 Sport was a delight. My father's 1965 FIAT 2300 Station Wagon was quite a respectable road holding car for its time, but the Alfa Romeo 33 4WD a friend owned was quite outstanding.

I didn't get to drive, but a mates MX-5 2F full race car would have been the best thing i've been in, was like a go kart - full roll cage and the works.. amazing..!

Ps. My dad actually had a really nice 124 sport and dropped in a bigger engine from the sedan, can't remember but would have handled well.. no power steering though.

I forgot to mention one other car. My own! A 1982 Series I Datsun Bluebird TR-X. Absolutely outstanding handling and fantastic Australian designed brakes (so good, they made their way into the US Corvette). Sadly, the Bluebird had an appalling engine that didn't make full use of the car's well sorted chassis. Nissan then ruined everything further in the Series II TR-X by softening up the suspension and thinning down the rear sway bar.

Mates JCW Mini Cooper S (turbo not supercharged). Just like a go kart! Might not have the straight line speed of alot of performance cars, but the fun you have through the twisties is exceptional. And with a pod filter it has great intake noise and bov sounds.

havnt driven a huge range of cars, as im always sceptical of driving other peoples cars.. just like im not one for giving my keys out often..

Only Ferrari ive had the chance to drive was a mates old mans F355 - we were P platers at the time, police gave us the thumbs up (5 years ago before hoons became active in the media!) His old man took me to the top of falls creek in it, doing 140km on corners i would feel confident doing 60-80 in the R !

Had a go in a E46 M3 with bilstein pss9's and other goodies, the linear power was nice as i was glued in the seat!

An open wheeler Formula 1600 around Brands Hatch back in the 80s. Unbelievable amount of fun. Not a huge amount of power, but sitting 3 inches off the ground open to the world in a car that weighed about 400kg pulling 100mph+ down the back straight felt like lots given that at the time I was driving a 1300cc Ford Escort LOL.

RenaultSport Megane R26.

Was in the market a few months back for a new car, somehow ended up buying a house instead?? Took a regular RS megane for an hour long test drive out the back of warrandyte and was hugely impressed, the sheer cornering grip of the car made me car sick and my eyes hurt!! But the R26 was was on another level, about 100kgs lighter, LSD and even better seats, phenominal up Mount Dandenong Tourist road....

Loved the Cambiocorsa box too. Made it very easy to acclimatise.

I usually find any rental car probably handles the best , i find when i rented a renault van it only stepped out a few times but when applying the brakes at the right time it would come good.

Aurion - their fast especially when it's not yours.


Escort 1973 - panel van - 3 speed , 1 , 3 & 4th . it was a demon, It would handle all corners at the same speed ( speedo was dodgy and used to stick at 130kmh ) .

Serious note - EVO 1 - Raw ballsy and back to basics , no esp, ( ended upgrading the motor to an EVO 3 due to slight cam problem with the original motor. rock hard suspension , it was great out on mallala with ADVANS.
