Simple, Labor have a history of incompetence with money management and jack prices up so that people with some money (those that work, don't rely on welfare and own businesses) have to pay through the nose for anything they might like.
Huh? No one is being forced to buy these premium plates. If some consumers choose to buy a set, then they feel it is worth their money. To link this to economic incompetence is absurd.

I thought $90/yr in NSW was a ripoff.. $3k is outrageous (But atleast you own the plate.. in NSW you don't own even the plate anymore!)

Just like no-one is forced to buy a car over $57,180 and pay the 33% tax. The additional 8% brought in to cover economic incompetence. Care to dispute my link between the two there?
Federal Labor = biggest deficit in history = 8% increase to 33% car tax
State Labor = biggest deficit in history = Massive increases in costs of number plate + massive increases in taxes including registration and CTP
