Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Nice pics there. It's one big meet for all types of cars isn't it? Or was this just more of a drag/nostalgia meet? The number 59 car, is that an old type stock car or is it a drag car?
    Cheers,
    Trent

This is everything pretty much i think. There's a lot of different classes that run at different times during the entire week i think. (Well, as far as i know..) The pics shown are from a drag racing oriented guy from the states, hence it's older stuff that he has pics of mainly. That #59 car is a Fuel Roadster which i'm pretty sure means it runs on Nitro (no idea what percentage). Some aren't all that aerodynamic, but in a lot of classes it's not about going the fastest-period, it's about going the fastest under the rules you're governed by.

There would be few greater experiences than racing along the salt flats at 200mph, exposed to the elements in one of the above old school dragsters.

I think they generally push start them, note some of the photos.

This may be due to gear ratios?

worth it - very good movie, and the Mrs will like it too, not just racer stuff, good story. Anthony Hopkins is great.

                          Indeed it is.

In most of them the gearing renders them unable take off under their own power.

They have a truck/car push them in neutral until they are going quick enough to engage.

Correct. Haven't received any new photos.. If i do i'll be sure to post them..

                            Oh, this car..

Was built by Tom Hanna (Google him..). One of the best and most famous body/chassis builders in the US. It's a gas (petrol) powered streamliner with an aluminium 426 HEMI, not sure of the exact cubes, but as you can see it was no expense spared.. Twin plugs.. the lot.

The record for it's class is (was) 317mph. They took it out the day before yesterday for a shakedown pass.. Basically they just wanted to give it a bit of a squirt, see how it went and check everything out..

They went 379mph....... On the shakedown pass.
