That's obviously playing the the Veyrons advantage with straight line speed. I love the Veyron, and feel privileged to have seen such a technological marvel in my lifetime, as I'm not sure I will see another quite like it. But I still have a burning question. What is it capable of compared to the only cars it really can be compared to... true thoroughbreds... F1's! I would love to see the lap times it is cabale of doing on all of the F1 circuits around the world and have them compared to the best lap times set by current and past F1's on those tracks.

Thanks for the fix of Veyron superiority though, it's been a while since I've taken the time to watch a clip like this.

It's a pity you miss the point Rocket36. How many articles have you read talking about the technological superiority of the Veyron, and how it can catch a car accelerating from X km/h an hour to Y km/h from a standing start in the same space of time? And how many talking about the development and technology that's gone into developing the new GTR so it beats a Porche around the Nurburgring? Both are awesome displays of technological inginuity that cannot be fully appreciated on their own. It's only when you compare them to one another that you can get a sense of just how much superior one is over another. I think it's a testament to the GTR that they've even bothered to choose it to compare to the Veyron.

It really puts things in perspective for those of us who will probably never get a chance to ride in a veyron or anything like it.

Not like that at all. I just don't see the point in wasting time to prove the obvious. The TGUK Veyron vs McLaren F1 from the 90's was a much better comparison. The Veyron didn't beat it by much either.

Yes, everyone knows it's the fastest. What this proves is by how much, when compared to a car more of us are likely to see/experience. I think it's valuable to see the difference, to truly appreciate how far ahead the Veyron is - "faster" doesn't give an indication of how much faster.

Aside from that, the number of cylinders and turbos in isolation has little to do with it either way. Someone could build a ****ter of a W16 quad-turbo that'd be beaten by a GTR. There's a lot more to the superiority of the Veyron than just cylinders and turbos - if that's where your thinking stops, you've totally missed the point IMHO.

It beat it by about a second....

Thats likely close to 100m at the speeds they would be going by the end of that track.

Fairly demolished in my opinion, particularly when you consider how bad Hammond was off the start.

Personally I think that Hammond was just toying with the Mclaren to make it look closer than it actually was, because I find it hard to believe a pro like him would fudge the start so badly

Yah, it's a tiny car, yet weighs ~1900kgs IIRC...

The numbers don't lie.

0-100km/h in 2.5
100-200km/h in 3-4 seconds
0-400m in 10.2 seconds

It is also the fastest accelerating car by an absolute mile over speeds of 200km/h.

In short, there is no way known that the Mclaren could get off the line and pull a lead of that much unless the Bugatti ****ed up the start in a big way.

The race was either staged, or just showed how much better driver the Stig is over hammond
