Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • You'd have thought it'd be alright!

    But it wasn't!

Driving over the gateway this morning the vehicle in front of me kicked up (what I thought was) a large plastic bag, being heavy traffic I couldn't swerve to avoid it and coped it. Looking behind me I notice that it hasn't passed, with not being able to pull over until I get off the bridge and through the tolls I begin to watch my temp Gauge in case the it's blocked the airflow to the radiator but all seems well, until . . . the car seems to lose power, having me apply more gas to keep to the 100kmh and when I let off the gas it felt like I was applying the brakes?!

An emergency bay arrives and i shoot into it, upon inspection I find out it wasn't a plastic bag but a sheet of shrink wrap! It decided it'd wrap/melt itself around my drive shaft, cv boot and brakes and whilst it was there thought it'd be a good idea to tear my cv boot to shreds and melt onto the brake disc

So here the pics from the side of the highway

    from underneath

    above

After getting extremely greasy and frustrated, heres the cv boot and some of the melted wrap

    melted onto the disc

and the end product, an exposed cv

Doesn't most plastic (like glad wrap and plastic bags) shrink when it's hot?

that sux man, big time. i always try to avoid plastic bags and the like if possible and if they go under the car i keep an eye out to make sure they come out the other end. this is a pretty bad example of what can happen when they don't. and on the gateway bridge where there's nowhere to stop.

Man that sucks. I was in a similar situation before with a long piece of packaging and after noticing it not coming out through the back, I also took a quick stop down the next intersection. Luckily I got a hold of it before it did the kind of damage it did on your car...

at least you're not this guy...

                  lol

                  This is absolutely hilarious.

A buddy in Canada sent this to me.

This guy ran over a mattress and decided to keep going. The ensuing jumble finally whipped around enough to put a tear in the gas tank, the subsequent lack of fuel is what finally brought this vehicle to its knees.

It had still managed to drive 30 more miles decently with a 60lb tangle wrapped around the driveshaft.

This genius complained that the vehicle had a "shimmy" when driving at high speeds.

This is what the dealership found..............

                  And....wait for it.....

You'd be able to get mega compensation if you know who it came from...littering plus failure to tie down a moving load. They'd get OWNED, and have to pay for every damage that it's caused for you!

                          Good luck with it bro..

Thats a lot of mess from some plastic, hope it all comes good. Does the bridge have cameras monitoring the traffic? If they do you may be able to view and get who dropped it.
