Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • UK Heatwave

LOL I really feel for them:

Earlier in the day, 36.3C (97.3F) near Gatwick Airport was thought to have been the high.

Peaks were 29.7C in St Angelo, Northern Ireland, 31.3C in Prestwick, Scotland, and 34.2C in Penhow, south Wales.

    In the heat:

-Several schools chose not to open on Wednesday, while others closed at lunchtime and many school sports days were cancelled.

-Unions called for employers to keep staff cool and called for a change in the law to create a maximum working temperature.
    Source - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5193486.stm

Also, the article states that they've taken measures to avoid the asphault from melting and some reports came through that railways have buckled... I some of their materials just aren't made to handle the extreme heat!

Funny, my father visisted me last year I told him to slip slop slap etc , but he ignored my advice.

Next day he came downstairs looking like a lobster but all swollen, he reckoned he was fine, but i could see he was in agony.(Male pride hey)

I reckon took three days to recover, poor ole boy.

          It was only late April

You do realise the criteria for declaring a 'heatwave' in the UK is if they have two consecutive days above 32°?

No I'm not kidding, that's the actual criteria

Yep, I lived there for 2 years.

That'd just be three months of a cool summer here in Sydney

Wow no I had no idea! I guess that would be why alot of their buildings and roads aren't really made for that sort of weather.

To the people that live/ed there; what sort of heat is it? Like dry or humid?

                  Its all quite relative really.

i was born there and experienced a minus 25 C before migrating to Oz. I suspect they laugh at our winters

                        what a bunch of softies.

if you cant stand the heat get outta the kitchen!!!!

but seriously, i'd enjoy it if we STOPPED having those efking 42 degree heatwaves in melbourne next summer.

when people say 'oooh i love summer' on days like that, it peeves me. who likes waking up with their balls stuck to their thigh?

Part of their problem is that generally the houses there are designed for cold winters, where as our houses are designed for hot summers. I actually know a few scots who think the winters here are worse than scotland, because our houses are not properly insulated for it!

LOL i've found that the people who say that only say it when it's 15 degrees in the middle of Winter.. Come Summer, they'll all be saying that they hate it!
