Well.. The day started off early. Loading the trailer and and the Rodeo and the Caddy.. Getting everything sorted, making sure we had everything etc etc etc.
A quick stop at Blaxland maccas for some lunch..
Then we arrived... Drag-ens Hot Rod Club. We unloaded the car and our gear and got set for what we hoped would be a good night..
This is Morrie Carlton. The guy who ran A/FD and AA/FD with this car. He's a top guy and had some fantastic stories. He jumped straight in the car, slid down and grabbed the brake handle and steering wheel like it was only yesterday.
Once the night kicked off and everyone started to arrive, it was fantastic. Music, old drag racing footage being played on a projector in the club house, food, drinks... What more could you ask for?
Dad had a great time catching up with friends he hadn't seen for in some cases, 25 years. There was a lot of interest in the car. Morrie was absolutely stoked to see it again.
Anyways, someone who took footage has already posted a clip on Youtube... Its a bit dark, but you can see the header flames and hear the engine, so what more could you ask for??
More was in the car for the first cackle. He said it was worth a million dollars to get the opportunity to do that. Bob Honeybrook actually came up to dad after he shut it down with tears in his eyes, because he was so happy to see it run.
We put Bob Shepherd in the car for the second cackle, but unfortunately the starter lunched itself and the planetary gears have gone. Even though the car didn't run, Bob said having the opportunity to sit in the car gave him goosebumps. He came up and thanked Dad 3 times for giving him a spot in the seat!
Oh, i forgot to mention... Steve Thomas (Visual Velocity) is going to give us a CD of all the pics he took from last night next weekend at the Nitro Champs. So when i get a hold of them i'll be posting them too. I saw a couple he took on his camera with big header flames and all It looked very nice.

Yeah that's a big deal Preeny, you and your Dad should be proud. Those kind of events are the things you'll remember on your death bed, and I'm sure the old time racers will be the same. Nice way to stir up all those old memories, but surely a power point would have been easier....

Thanks guys.
We're quietly very happy about the weekend. We had a really good time and apart from the starter chucking it in (which we've got a fair idea of the reason that happened), it went off flawlessly.
And Greg, sure, a powerpoint would be EASIER, but it sure as hell wouldn't smell as good!

Preeny glad I got to read it before you had to delete. Well done to you and your dad mate.
Cheers,
Trent
No worries guys. Sorry about that. That article is going in Dragster Australia aswell as Nitro! Magazine and was also sent to Don Ewald (We Did It For Love).. So I was told to remove it till its been published.
You've all done such a nice job of every part of this car (except the starter ) and its just marvallous to see that you've brought back to life a piece of almost lost history.
Well done Preen clan - preservation to this extent is the noblest of undertakings.
