I strolled back into the workshop yesterday... To this.
(Sorry for the blurry pics)
We got the Brad Penn straight 50 (can't get 60 in australia) oil earlier in the week, so dad was attempting to get oil pressure this weekend. I made an oil pump drive to be driven by a pistol drill earlier in the week.
Turns out we put the oil pressure relief block off in around the wrong way.. So no oil pressure. We had a 50% chance of getting it right! haha.
So dad dropped the sump off and pulled the pump off, turned the block off around, and then we reassembled everything.
After that, we got oil pressure! 120 PSI worth, which means we may need to take some tension off the relief in the pump.. But we have to talk to Rick about that one.
Plenty of oil spewing out everywhere, plenty coming out of the rocker gear. So we were very happy!
After that we set the valve clearances. I got the great job of winding the engine over, while dad got cranky trying to adjust the pushrods.. Hahaha.
Today we started doing the throttle linkage. The decision has been made that we're using a linkage throttle rather than a hydraulic, so we have to make all the brackets and pitman arms now.
Guess what the first linkage rod is made out of?? Anyone who is into air cooleds should be able to guess it..

I made a door handle from a cut down 1200 head stud once.
It's still opening my parent's security door 20 years later.
