Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My Mk1 Golf

Hi, I just joined and thought Id show you all my Mk1 Golf. Im 17 and its my first car. It was originally a 1.1 Golf N and the previous owner converted it to a 1.8 and planned on making it a track car. I bought it and converted it back to a 1.1 (formel e) as insurance is so high for new drivers. Hopefully it will pass its mot and be on the road very soon!

This is how the car stands now

Dont worry, its going lower at the front when I have time to wind the coilovers down.

    All comments welcome.

    Ross

He could be looking at $7 / day for the 1.8 you aussies don't realise how harsh it is for young uns in the UK

Welcome ross it's inspiring to see a mk1 in such great shape. Sorry to say I quite like that boxy maestro in the background too

Thanks. Yeah, your right. One of the best quotes I had was £1000 a year and thats for the 1.1! Most insurers said £2500 or more. I think thats about 4,100 AUD a year??. When I phoned for a quote I asked why its so much for my car and they said "becaue its a golf and they are seen as boy racer cars". I dont think I would even get insurance for a 1.8 at this age. It will be a long time before I can.

Oh, and dont be sorry for liking the maestro haha they are great cars. We have a few including a maestro turbo. Are there many maestros in Australia?

            thanks

That's cool mate , was only pulling your leg anyway. Never seen a Meastro here, or any Austins except some really old ones. You get Capri's here, they love the olf fords, RS2000 and MK1 Mexico's etc. I am afraid to say Austins don't last long so you don't see many of them around, I am sure the meastro turbo is becoming a classic in it's own right nowadays.

Your VW looks sweet mate, I am impressed... Easily the best car on your driveway !

Yeah the turbo is getting more recognition nowadays, it was always a very undestimated car. Thanks for the comments
