Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

              thanks for the comments everyone!
yeh that Mini is a pretty impressive little car. its just as quick as my GTI seeing as i have the DSG but through the corners it craps all over me. it looks great on those OZ Ultraallegras too. but by the time it was on the road it was around $68k minus those OZ rims!

Balkanac, i love the DSG but i feel like its making me a lazier driver and my mates give me crap for it too. it still comes no where close to the satisfaction of a manual and its not as fun either.
its pretty much perfect with its operation and theres no way i could buy a regular auto slush box after. but the tech factor and that fart the GTI gets on the gear change is addictive and i love it how it makes people turn and stare and obviously in heavy traffic its fantastic.

glad you like the pictures too. your R looks hot and i have a massive soft spot for the mk4 r32s

I agree with you about the DSG. I had a loan MK5 diesel with the DSG and its better than any other auto i have ever driven, but it can't replace the manual yet. Apperently vw are working on a 7-speed unit and that is supposed to be much better than the current one.
I never realised how good a black GTi looks, very nice! if i was to buy one i'd be black for sure! any way, it looks very good and i like the german flag! some german plates would look awesome on it. If you remember the 3-door red GTi on the cruise, they are my mates (da_gti) and i think he could get you some

the dsg on a TDI feels completely different to that on the GTI. its nowhere near as smooth and is much jerkier though that is down to the softness of the engine mounts. the GTIs changes are totally seamless especailly since i fitted the Neuspeed torque arm insert to reduce the engine movement.

yeah i have heard about that new 7-speed DSG. sounds awesome!

also as much as i love the German-ness of my (yes i know its seth effrican built) i think i will stick to my current plates which i love to death and i recon look perfect on my car. best birthday present ever.. and it just so happened that was the exact number, letter and colour combo i wanted

dont worry i wont be bringing any of that crap to this forum. me and matt are mates... he is just a smart ass who needs to be brought back in line from time to time lol.

the next thing planned for the GTI is a new anti-roll bar for the rear. i really want to dial out that factory understeer and make try and make it as flat and tail happy as that mini!
im desperate to chip especially after driving a fellow golfmkv members car and giving it a good thrash but i currently dont have the funds for that sort of purchase
