  • My Mk1. Thought id just post some pics...

This is my GLD with a non gti 1.6 engine. Yes i know, i wasnt fond of converting a GLD but the interior was in good knick, the engine had a craked head, and I had a modified 1.6 Ls engine waiting to be fired up. And I desperately needed an MK1 on budget money.

    So...here is my GLD/Ls. 1980 4 door.

    What i have done:

    Resprayed Black
    ATS wheels (old skool)
    GTI front spoiler
    GTI body stripe
    Cabriolet twin headlights

2 1/2in Speco tacho (diesel had no tacho)
    2 2inch Speco gauges
    Momo leather steering wheel

    2 inch exhaust
    King springs

Renault 16 weber with custom intake piping with Rush foam filter
    Ported
    Rebored to 1.7
Shaved head and block to increase compression
    Diesel gear box

Spectacular paint job! Can't recall seeing you parked or driving around in NW Tassie. Looks a great car!

Looks great and done in good taste.
Should fly with the diesel diff ratio in it.
I see you have taken the side mouldings off, lot of work that but like the paintwork .Job well done.

Tassie boys can really hold their 2 heads up

        Thanks for the comments.

        Confession to make tho.
The paint job didnt cost a couple of grand. Haha, far from it. Im a student so my budget was small. My dad is a mechanic by trade so he has contacts. One of them being a now retired panelbeater/spray painter. So the paintjob looks great from far and in photos but close up it starts to show signs of a budget job. Few cracks here and there. But im definitely not complaining. The paint is a little more than 2 years old and still looks good.

As for the side moldings, its was going to be alot of work filling those holes. But again budget . Found some pinstripping that happened to be the right width and colour. job done. and pretty happy with it to. no dramas.

so yeah...a few short cuts that have turned out great. happy with it.
