Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New Polo GTI

    G'day all,

Have been lurking on the forum here for a month or so after picking up a Polo GTI, so thought I'd share a few pics as it might be a bit different...

Now that it's had it's highlights done it's off to the gym tomorrow for some decent brakes and an APR chip to start the serious work. New suspension, half-cage, seats, harnesses and further engine & exhaust work is planned once I get a feel for the car on the track and figure out what changes best suit my driving style.

The goal is to be properly prepared (both car and driver) for the NSW Dutton Rally later this year (as inspired by the red APR cars in last year's rally that I've seen elsewhere on this site) and then Targa Tasmania in 2009.

Thanks to all on the site for all the useful information I've read so far - the car purchase and decision to go down the APR path for performance upgrades were all based in part on opinions of people from this forum. Hopefully one day I'll be able to return some knowledge back to the group.

Welcome to the forum James. Can't actually say I've seen another Pogo GTI in those colours ... interesting.

Hope you time here is productive and helpful and that your Pogo gives you the pleasure mine does for me.

Thanks all for the warm welcome - most appreciated.

The yellow is our company colour, so it went down on the Polo as a base for some signwriting but I managed to snap a few photos before the rest of the work was done last night.

We've actually got a V6 Touareg in the same colour too...

I will have to keep this post updated as the car progresses...

Love the yellow and black combo - awesome

Not sure if I have seen a new Polo with different coloured roof to the rest of the body. That will make you stand out from the crowd.

Very keen to see how this goes when it competes

Did you have to special order the colour, or has it been applied after purchase?

              Crowes Curtains?

I used to see the Toerag most mornings on Canberra Ave, but can't say I've seen it for a while.

              Cheers Liam

That's the one - I've given the Touareg to one of my staff who lives in the Woden area, so it's not hanging around Canberra Ave as often these days.

The yellow on the Polo is actually a wrap (think big vinyl sticker about 3mm thick) rather than a respray, as I've found that reselling yellow VWs is a bit hard (anyone want to buy a yellow Touareg??).

The black roof was kinda accidental - the signwriter needed assistance to stretch the roof panel and so he hadn't put it on when I picked up the car the other day, but I think we've decided it looks better in black.

Thought I'd have some new photos today of the brake install, but sadly I've discovered that the big Brembos that I purchased don't fit under the current set of factory VW 17" wheels, so I need to find a suitable set of wheels before the brakes go on.

Nice work with the vinyl sticker, it looks like it has been sprayed. That must have taken a lot of hours to finish the job.

In all it took them 2 full days to do the vinyl wrapping - from about 10am the first day through to 8:30pm on the second day. By contrast the actual sign writing took only about 2 hours for the whole car.

The colour is simply called 'Bright Yellow', which is as close a match as possible to the Ford 'Rapid Yellow' on the Touareg.
