Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi,

My name is Fahmid Khondaker. I am a 21 year old engineering student currently studying at the University of Queensland. I was born In Bangladesh, and have lived in South Africa for 10 years of my life, and now living in Australia. I am now an Australian Citizen, and definitely proud of it. I love this place, the people, the culture and the beaches!
Since a very young age I have always been into my modes of transport. Running, Cycling, long boarding, and driving.
I think my passion for modifying things started when I played hours and hours of Need for Speed Underground. It was the first game of its kind that allowed you to change everything about your car (including speakers!). I am sure those of you who have played it know exactly what I am talking about.
When I first learnt how to ride a push bike, all I could think about was how to make my bike stand out from the crowed (this was around year 8 – High school). So I started modding it; installed a speedo, and a little bracket where I could mount my mp3 player. I even got lights for my valve caps! The valve caps were stolen within a week :/, and then the bike was stolen from the train station a few years later. I was pretty devastated but luckily I just got my learners license around that time,
and shifted my focus from bicycles to cars!
Modifying and making my car unique is something that I felt was quite important. I wanted everyone to see; “hey, look, I really like my cars!”. If given the choice I would always buy the model below the top of the range and use that money for making my car unique. (Ideally; I would buy the top of the range and modify that )
Lately, all I tend to do is post photos of cars on facebook every second day. It is a really bad habit, but every time I do a new modification there is always a few photos to go with it. Some of my friends have spoken to me about this, and have basically said that this makes me look like I have the social skills of a potato.
So here I am now on the forums letting out all my car related vents! Hope you guys enjoy!

    1st car : 1993 Corolla
Modifications: Mild Audio mods (head unit, speakers).
    – couldn’t find any photos!

    2nd car: 1998 Audi A3
    Modifications:
    Led tail lights
    Angel Eyes
    Xbox
    Alpine flip out head unit
    Speakers (subs, amps, etc)
    17” Mako Blade wheels

I then sold my Audi and thought it was time for a newer car. So I purchased a VW golf 90 Tsi Mk6.
    Modifications:
    Rieger Tuning body kit
Audio – Pioneer speakers etc, rcd510.
    Bluefin superchips ECU remap

I found that the vw was an amazing car, but for some reason I just got very hungry for power. So I sold it and purchased my current car; the Audi A3 2007 Quattro 2.0T.
    Modifications:
APR Stage 1 ECU (188 KW at the flywheel, 411Nm of Torque)
    APR Carbonio intake
    BBS CH 19" Rep Wheels
    Random Body Kit
    Alpine Ixa W407 Head unit
    Alpine Reversing Camera
    Full Moon roof
+ a lot more stuff I have forgotten

As you can see here, changing just the wheels does not make the car look much better. It still requires a lot more work! The car is sitting so high with the 19’ wheels, it reminds me of a kite!

I'm sorry, did you say you were a student!?

Glad you're having fun. I'm quite the opposite though, love having a car that doesn't stand out at all and then surprises everyone when I decide to use the supercharger Never bothered with visual mods in UG.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

            Thank you.

It was really good! It worked out well that we had only about 5 people, because we didn't end up losing anyone!

Haha, yeah, I'm a student. I generally have managed to break even(with all modifications) when I sell my car\lose about $1500. So each of these 'upgrades' aren't really costing that much !

"Visual mods in UG" - ?

I have always been a fan of the 118 Tsi! I drove one with a bluefin ecu remap... it often makes me wonder whether buying the audi was worth it. The 118tsi was a beast!!

UG = Underground. I was hoping you'd get it and no one else would. Oh the shame...

What power figures did you get out of the 90 TSI out of interest?

                    Cheers Jed,

I'm a bit embarrassed to say this but the exhaust is still stock. Running tips. *face palm*

I am looking into a miltek system for the car later when i have some $$, but to be honest the car has enough power for me right now.

The Golf 90TSI with the tune got about 110kw and 260Nm of torque, because it weighed about 1250-1300kg ( less than the gti ), it actually was quite a fun little car!

:S hahahaha ah well, time to save up then
And fair enough as far as power goes. But more is handy haha

                        Hi Fahmid

You've had an nice progression into the Audi, it looks really hot too.
I really like the Rieger tuning body Kit you had on your golf. I was wondering if you got it online or through someone here in Australia? Did you have to get it painted to match the colour?

The Rieger tuning kit on the golf. Got it here in a local body kit shop in Brisbane. It costed about $2k fitted and painted.
