Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My mk4 GTI

Hey fellas, been on the forums for a while now.
    this is my car.

    99 gti
had 106k when i got it. almost 2 years late it has around 138k. over those years ive done heaps of small things (bushes, swaybar, rear stress bar (in boot, ect)) and some larger things (exhaust, TIP, CAI) but the last thing was to sort out how she looks.
    so here's a small timeline

earliest photo of the car i could find (coilovers already fitted)

then added mk1 tt wheels (also new rubber - 595 rsr up front and 595 ss on the rear)

waited a while, in that time had some interior pieces redone like door cards, headliner, cleaned pillars and a 44dd a pillar pod and some reflective (legal) tint (probably more but i cant remember)

Painted the Badges Black & Then bought all this:

(Anniversary kit from england - great quality replica made from ABS) (bought the whole kit as it was easier that way - the front lip is for sale if anyone's interested!)

    &

(OEM r32 front bumper - repainted BMP & Cupra R Splitter)

Fitted it the front bumper one cold night and this happened

(was scraping up half of the driveway)

Had to remove the splitter - which made me really annoyed as it looked soo awesome
    BUT...

STILL could NOT get in the garage.
I thought about raising it but hated that idea so i went to bunnings and found some pine that i have to use as a small stepping into the garage... HAHA - the price of being low i suppose (even though i was thinking of going Lower!)

    And finally
    as it sits today:

I'm pretty happy with how she sits but there's always something else hey..

    Plans for the future
    - Nothing (in the wifes eyes)
    - Nicer rims (in my eyes hehe) Possibly some BBS RS replicas in 17" with more aggresive offset OR some 18" BBS LM Replicas also more offset (in rear especially) OR refurb the mk1 TT's in a gunmetal and add spacers in the rear

    Cheers.

    Love it mate!
Those wheels and new body parts makes it a whole new car.
Be keen to see what you come up with when you buy new wheels!
Rear wiper delete to finish the clean look?

        Cheers fellas.
I think I'll actually get a mk5 rear aero wiper as I do use it quite a lot.
I reckon bbs rs would look great. Then again a lot of wheels would look great I think.
I think the next thing I need to do is the gear shifter & boot as mines a little old now.. Probably go for the r line shifter from tmtuning. Love the look of em. Would really like the anni shifter but doesn't come in 5 speed
