  • My MK IV R32

New to the VWWA forums but a lot of you know me from Vortex and OzAudi.

Thought the signal to noise ratio might be a bit better on here than what Vortex Australia forum has turned into but we'll wait and see.

Here's a bit of info on whats been happening with my car.

I've had the car since new and it is used for tarmac rallies now with only the occasional drive on the street maybe once or twice a month.

I still have all the original parts I have removed from the car if I want to return it to near stock but it's unlikey that will happen anytime soon.

List of modifications and pics below.

    Cheers Al

    APR ECU Upgrade –
Valet, Stock, 98 and 104-Race Octane programs
Fault Code Erase& Throttle Body Realignment
Security Lockout & Anti Theft Programs

BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox Cold Air Intake

    APR / B&B Catback Exhaust

    Haldex Blue HPP AWD Controller

    KW Variant 3 Coilover Suspension
    KW Motorsport Adjustable Top Mounts

Forge Rear Adjustable Control Arms - top and bottom arms

    HPA Short shift

    VF Engine Mounts
    VF Pendulum Mount

    H&R front 25mm adjustable swaybar
    H&R rear 21mm adjustable swaybar

Tomas Sport Tuning Rear Stress Brace

    Dieselgeek Panzerplate Skidplate

    OZ Superleggera 18 x 8 Wheels
Toyo Proxes R888 R rated tyres

CAMS/ FIA approved Custom Fabricated Roll Cage

CAMS / FIA approved Sparco Pro 2000 Seats

CAMS / FIA approved Sparco 6 Point Harness’s

    CAMS approved 2 x 1KG Fire Extinguishers

    CAMS approved First Aid Kit

    CAMS approved safety triangles

CAMS/FIA approved tow hooks front and rear

    CAMS/FIA approved secondary bonnet tether

CAMS / FIA approved Kill Switch

    Stainless Steel Brake Lines
EBC Redstuff Ceramic Brake Pads front & Rear
    Motul 600 Race Brake Fluid

    Sparco Rally pedal set
    Sparco Rally Tool bag

    Upgrades to come

    Peltor Intercom System
    Terratrip trip computer

The car has now been scrutineered by CAMS and has been given a log book that allows it to be entered in CAMS / FIA sanctioned tarmac rally events in the M2C2 classification. Which is

M2 = Cars having a 0-60mph acceleration time from a standing start of 4.8 to6.8 seconds in standard form.
    C = Contemporary 1998 Onwards
    2 = Capacity 2501cc to 3500cc

The CAMS Modern Tarmac Rally rules are pretty strict on what you are allowed to do to the car so unfortunately any FI option is out as I will be entering Mt Buller this year and in the future Targa Tas, Sun Coast and the like are in the plans. There are still some options open in the rules for NA mods so I will investigate these but I'm pretty much at the limit of whats allowed for the Modern Class.

Next event is the Dutton Rally Queensland with Dave from Waxit co-driving again this year with me followed by Buller Sprints in November and maybe NSW Dutton and couple of smaller events in between depending on time and budget available.

Thanks to the following companies for thier on going support and excellent service.

    Harding Performance (APR)
    VF Engineering
    Inmotive (KW)
    Waxit.com.au
    Sherrin Motorsport
    Dulvari Prestige Detailing
    Norm Singleton
    GP Cars
    Trackside RC

Cool, long time no see Al.

Let me know if you'd like a new sig. Oh, when is NSW Dutton, I'll definitely come along for a look if I can make it. I'd actually really like to run the MINI in that but mrs minigolf took all our spare cash buying her new car. Damnit!

                Cheers Liam

Thanks for the nice comments. I'll try and answer your questions in this post.

Brackie: Not sure how to use the gallery here, I find using my webspace easier. Is there a FAQ on how to setup the gallery?

deemoIII: If you have a look in the link to my gallery I posted, that pic makes up one of a sequence of images exiting a right hander after a short 200mm straight. I was under full throttle trying to get the best run out of the corner I could and didn't realise that I had gone wide until I saw the pictures. I actually got fastest time on that stage for my class.

GoLfMan None of the car rallying though there are a couple of shots of it in the QLD round of the Dutton Rally that they have been showing on Foxtel recently.

TassieGTI: The Haldex controller is one of the best bang for buck mods that I have done along with the VF Engine & Pendulum Mounts.

Liam: Hows it going Would love a new sig with the current hardware sponsors logos on it. Let me knnow what you need. NSW Dutton dates are 25th to 27th of May. Not sure if I will be able to make it as we have the warmup race for the 5th scale world championship in May as well. Will keep you posted.

MattyR: Will try and drag out a couple of clips we made when testing the intake and on a drive day but I don't have any of it in events yet.

                    Cheers Al

Damn, that is one fine example of an R32 right there!

Question - the boot and knob for your gear stick, are they stock R32? I might have to order them in for my GTI!

                            Hi golfworx,

Thanks for the welcome and comments. The car is an absolute blast to drive but I'm basically at the limit of what I can do to it to keep it within the CAMS Tarmac Rally regs.

                            Cheers Al
