Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

As the car is a Japanese import the stereo headunit was half in Japanese so no good to me, replaced it with the setup from a Mk4 R32:

Installation of the '3LB' wires in my Bora, enabling the top of the little screen in my dash cluster to repeat what the screen on the headunit is displaying.

        Cluster out

3LB loom made out of parts of spare Mk3 interior loom

Cover of green dash cluster plug

Insides of green cluster plug, wires were put in pins 30, 31 and 32

Stereo came out, wires put in pins 8, 9 and 10 of green section of the mini ISO plug - photo shows it all back in

        It worked!!!

VAG Tacho cable modifications, after editing some of the hex addresses I now have illuminated needles, distance to empty and the Welcome message enabled.

            Needles and distance to empty:

Welcome message appears when you turn the ignition on:

Showing the R32 floormats and gearknob/boot (along with the mess on the mats!):

Passat W8 interior light install. I made up a wiring adaptor harness so that I can reinstate the original light easily in the future - if I want to.

I bought the light along with the correct plug for it and the rest was made from bits of old Mk3 loom. Fitting wise it is a straight swap, the only tricky bit is making the wiring adaptor and running a wire down to the dash for the illumination feed.

                  Old Mk4 light:

Some photos I took to show what the W8 light has done to my interior:

The latest update will be next week when I fit 18" OZ Aristo rims, the standard ones from a Mk4 R32

Will hopefully look a little bit like this:

Looking very nice mate. Some very nice mods there. Must say I'm very jealous of the FIS.
                          Good stuff.
                          Cheers,

Do you see many Boras in NZ...
Were they sold there new,or do you only have imports from Japan...
