Multivan Tyre Pressures (T6 LWB)

Hiya,

I know tyre pressures is a bit of a how long is a piece of string topic, with trade offs between handling, ride comfort and tyre life and wear all intermingling giving no right answer.

What I would like to do however is decipher my placard:



Do the two sets of numbers left and right indicate front and rear pressures? And the top and bottom figures are suggestions for fully loaded vs. lightly loaded vehicle?

My Multivan was delivered to me with pressures in the mid to high 30s, I upped them yesterday afternoon at the servo to 44 all round, but the Dunlops have a max pressure of 50psi.

Am I reading the placard right and doing pressure right for long tyre life at the expense of a bit of a soft ride?

Yep, I understand the same way (left and right indicate front and rear pressures, top and bottom for fully loaded vs. lightly loaded).

I usualy run mid to high 30s for softer ride, especially wanted in the back.
I am guessing small difference in tyre pressure will not affect tyre life much.

It came off the dealer floor at 35 psi, and even at 40 psi its a huge difference in the reduction of ride quality.

Might be worth a mention that in my (T5) owner/operator manual it suggests using max placard pressures if you don't mind a rough ride. ie better fuel economy.

I'm weighing in about 14 months late....

I've had 4 new tyres fitted today to my 2017 T6 Transporter Frontline Camper conversion. Frontline recommends 50PSI front and rear and I adhered to that for the life of the OE tyres (Goodyear Marathon Cargo 215/65R16) and they lasted 45,000 kms. The van is just 14 months old but it's the daily driver as well as the getaway vehicle.

As Bob Jane has inflated my new tyres to 40PSI, I've come to the forum to see what others are doing and found this thread. I'm beginning to think that perhaps 40 rather than 50 is the way to go but can you shed any light on tyre wear yet?

I’m still on the original
Marathon cargo and looking to get similar mileage to you. I used to run the suggested pressures on the placard and I felt the van was very bouncy. I’ve been experimenting and currently am around 39psi front and 42ish rear and it seems much better behaved. I did run about 37 in the front for a while but the steering suffered though it did feel comfortable and nice and quiet.

What tyres did you end up with?

The pressure is there to hold the load, hence when lightly loaded you can run 39psi in the rear.

Do your Dunlops have the correct 103 load index? 50psi max seems really low for a "commercial tyre".

The Dunlops weren't a commercial tyre, they were similar to tyres that came new on our Falcon XR6. Sport Maxx. I didn't get anywhere near the km out of them that I'm going to get from the Kumhos that are on it now.

The 235/55/17 are extra load tyres and for longer life you should use 50psi in them. Otherwise they just wear out at the shoulders.
