  • T4 TDI ACV timing belt replacement in Adelaide. Who?

Approaching 270,000 km in the T4 which means it's time for a belt change. Last one got done at 180,000 by the nearest dealer and by a tech I know. That's not happening this time due to 'issues' about 30,000 km in (fuel belt tensioner wasn't properly torqued).

Adelaide is a good alternative. So apart from Solitaire...who might be worth a chat to about doing the job?

          Hey all

Thought I should follow this up. Ended up going with German Auto at Melrose Park. Home - German Auto Repairs Adelaide

Choice was primarily based on location (we were staying at Glenelg and I was on the bicycle) and the first conversation I had with them over the phone (they had the parts in stock and seemed to be aware of the constraints of the job).

And it went pretty much flawlessly. I also had them do a service while they were there (it's just rolled over 270,000 km) and they identified a couple of issues I was aware of (but didn't tell them about) plus a couple that I wasn't (like split inner front CV boot and a little play in the inner tie rod ends on the steering). They also replaced the brake fluid reservoir because of excess sediment build-up that they weren't keen to flush through the system...I knew about this too as it eats a lot of dust.

All up $1,730 for the job which was under my budget for the work. I'd allowed $1,500 for the belts (based on their quote) plus another $500 for the service so happy enough. No issues were identified on the van in the five hour drive home last night.

Another client was in there with their Passat AWD wagon and they were from Roxby Downs so they might have a thing for out of towners!

I am pleased you got a good result. I did not respond to your earlier request for a recommendation. As you know I do my own services & while I know a few who specialize in VW, have not had any work done by them. German Auto have been operating a long time & so would have seen some T4s come through their shop. I was talking to a new VW agent probably 4 or so years back & the service guy had a T4 V6 coming in but no info on what was required. After further talking it was established that I had much more info than they could get their hands on through head office. They did say though that there was all the info that was needed for the later models.
So for owners of older models you need to go to someone who has a long association with VW.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
