  • Are 16" wheels possible on a T5.1?

Still looking at AT tyre possibilities for my T5.1. It has 17" wheels standard (18" is possible with the right tyres).
I have seen T5s that have 16" wheels as standard which have had AT tyres fitted. These give reasonable lift and the sort of tread pattern I'm after. There are several tyre possibilities for 16" wheels.

My question is whether 16" T5 wheels will fit my T5.1. Does anyone have experience/knowledge?

I ask because I see that brake pads ads are different depending on wheel size. That raised a question in my mind.

(There is also the question of whether it is possible to satisfy Queensland authorities.)

    Thanks folks.

I'm fairly certain that the T5.1 Multivan Comfortline was equipped with 16" rubber, like my T5. I thought that I'd downloaded a spec sheet, but I can't find it.

Can't do it if you have the big brakes.

Which I think only applies to the Bi-turbo.

its easy to see if you have big brakes with the 17 inch rims, it will be tight, if the smaller brakes are on the front there is around 20mm opening showing. (thats if you are running VW 17 inch steels)

As for the smaller rims, i believe it is legal to go down a inch, but QLD Transport are concerned with the rolling diameter compared to the original spec and it meets the load rating

Twas cold last night so didn't get out of the van but in the morning light I see I do have the big brakes - so that looks like I don't have the 16" option. Grrr.

Shame about that, the 16 inch would have been a good option.

Is yours a 132kw engine? i can't recall from other posts, as far as i know they are all big braked and supplied with 17 inch rims.

Yes, 132kW, though I'd hesitate to say "unfortunately"!
Enjoying driving in NE Vic over the next few days.

                Well, you know your answer then, 225/65 R17 or 235/65 R17, or 215/60 R17's

Look on the bright side, NE Vic is a great place to be and those forest drives a lot more fun than inner city driving.

i was wondering why you said it was cold this morning.. makes sense if your down that way.

I've just removed my standard 2011 T5.1 16' wheels and fitted 18' Amarok rims with 255/45 18 tryres.

So was the answer to this question that you can't have 16" wheels on any model with the larger brakes - and the larger brakes are standard on the 132kw bi turbo models?

I've just got a 103kw that came standard with 16" wheels - I see some increase theirs to 17" or 18" - why would you do that?

I've increased mine for better road holding without lowering it and looks better.
I thought all the brakes are the same size.
What do you currently have on ours?

Thanks for that. The 16" do look too small within the wheel arches so I was considering it for this reason...although it didn't seem a good enough one to spend money replacing wheels. Better road holding would be a bonus. I had thought people might have changed mainly for offroad reasons.
I do not know what size brakes I have (I should get off my ass and check)...I presume standard...I just have the bog standard front wheel drive 103kw lwb transporter with 16" wheels.
From this thread I got the impression that the 132kw bi turbo had the larger brakes and therefore the larger 17" wheels as standard?
