  • DIY LHS Mirror Replacment

2015 multivan passenger side mirror has snapped at the mount point.
I had a quick look tonight and from todays research I need to order an entire new mirror??

Its candy white as well so new mirror requires additional painting. But shouldn't that white cover come off existing unit and back onto replacement?

Any advice on the process would be appreciated whether it be suppliers, recommended workshops etc. I feel my lack of talent and time may see the DIY plan abandoned.

Austral VW have quoted $627 from go to woah
Burson would sell the single unit for $525
Sterlings appear to sell the unit for under $200

The dealer option is looking appealing due to the likely hood of having to take off the door card.

I decided to pursue Austral further and with better results but I wasn't filled with confidence from the point of contact in service department.

It was agreed that painting would not be required as the existing mirror unit could transfer the cover onto the replacement.

    The revised quote was
    "Mirror housing 7E2857508DE9B9 $349

    Labor-$88.00
No paint needed so total cost $437"

Anyway interested to hear anyone's thoughts and opinions. Reading some comments regarding Amarok mirrors the general consensus is that it's a design flaw, no movement forwards or backwards. Far from ideal for a side mirror.

If this were to happen again years down the track when the rig isn't so new I'd prefer to save the $$$ and have a go at the replacement. Anyone have any links or advice on that topic? YouTube is not giving me this specific How To but does have some current videos of other model VW's that gives me a general gist.
