  • T4 Cruise control

    Hi All
I'm in the middle of fitting the factory cruise kit to my tdi, but i'm having trouble locating the plug behind the relay panel to plug in to. Does anybody have a photo of the plug or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

After a little more investigating i found the plug pushed behind the floor mat, all good now.

How about a write up, how much it cost, where you bought it, degree of difficulty of installation etc.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

After fitting the kit last night, i had the cruise enabled through the ecu this afternoon. Fitting the cruise stalk is relatively straight forward, but one thing to be cautious of is the airbag clockspring as installation involves the removal of the airbag and steering wheel. The plug on the clockspring for the airbag is extremely fragile and can come apart ( it has a capacitor inside of it and is extremely fragile ). if this plug is broken or damaged a replacement from VW carries a list price of $340.00. Which makes the kit which has a trade price of approx $190.00 start to get expensive. The kit has the stalk, the wiring harness and an instruction manual, which contains the code for the activation if it is not already enabled in the ecu. With the airbag removed make sure you do not turn your ignition on as it will log a fault and you will have the airbag light reset via vagcom or vas. I tried to activate my cruise with vagcom as the copy we used did not have any parameters to do this. So i took a trip to the local VW dealership ( extremely helpful - Sth Yarra Volkswagen service centre in Abbotsford) where it was activated. I think having a transporter in was a bit of a novelty as they are not a commercial dealership, and the tech was a pom who had owned transporters. After a road test he reported that it appeared not to be working, there is no indication on the dash to say that cruise is activated. It was a bit hard to determine on the road as it is inner city and you have to be above 40 klms before you can enable it. On the way home it tried it myself and to my surprise i was able to use it. The problem i face is that there is no dash indication to say that the cruise is operating. Does anybody know what the light is like? I'm presuming that it illuminates in the warning light panel? any hints before i pull the instrument cluster out to check for globes etc. From what i have been told this system is the same as early Passats. Any ifo would be appreciated. Cheers

            t4tradie,
There is no such light to inform you of cruse control on

Does the fact that it keep approaching things in the road not make you think its on

The price in the UK is about the same as out there so thats not to bad.

What sort of money did the tech charge to activate the CC?

            Rob

Bad design by VW IMHO!! Every car that i have previously owned has had some form of illumination. Just goes to show that you shouldn't assume! Rob, the tech along with the service manager didn't charge me. I offered on several occasions including at least a slab of cans but to no avail! Two thumbs up to those guys. The Tech even said that if i had any further issues with my van and i needeed to plug it into VAS, to call in and that he would help me out.
