There's definitely a lot more to them than the standard towing eye.

In this pic you can see the threaded tube that I cut out that the original towing eye attaches too. It is very, very simple and I'd strongly suggest no one ever snatches from the standard point, ever.
It should only be used to pull the vehicle up onto a tow truck, that's it.
The plastic tube is a locator and is there to help install the eyes when they are needed for use. When not in use they come with 2 rubber plugs for the holes that you cut in the bumper.

I see Syncro has advertised that he has them for sale in Aus now, if you (or your mechanic) purchase a set and want some tips and advice on how to install them just ask and I'd be happy to help out.

Cheers mate mines the bigger one.
Part numbers from the first line of my invoice
        1x 42104B
        3x RLTFT5
        3x RLTP
And description of these part numbers is
PIONEER PLATFORM FITTED HEAVY DUTY LEG KIT.
VW T5 TRACK & FIXED MOUNT LOW

I bought it from All Vehicle Accessories in Port Melbourne VIC. They also fitted it for me.

In hindsight and if I had of actually known or realised, I would have gone with four cross bars and 8 legs, as three across the 2718 x 1465 span isn’t enough when I get up there to tie things off as it flexes and nearly touches the roof. If it becomes an issue when carrying larger loads I’ll probably invest in additional cross bar.

        Hope this helps

Also wanted to pass on my thanks for your notes and pics on this. To try and hide the damage caused to the plastic grill during the supposedly professionally fitting of my 20" light bar (and you can't buy a replacement grill...you need a whole new front bumper), I installed the same 32" bar as yours, following your instructions. Metal fabrication isn't my strong suit...but you can't use the standard mounts to the cross member...and without your pics I'd have never got there.

Hey mate no worries at all. That's why I love forums a lot still, as it's easy as to find info and pictures to do jobs just like these. Cheers

Fitted a Front Runner tail gate ladder today.
Easy as and works a treat. Now tying off my ladders and other stuff is a breeze.
Just used the stick on lower mount for now which saves having to drill into the tail gate.

                      • This has been a great thread to read.

I'm actually looking at mounting a Rhino rack pioneer platform to my transporter as well. (I am bringing it across from my 4WD)

I was wondering how you managed to fit the low-profile Rhino legs? I've looked all over the place online, and can only find a mounting kit for the high-profile legs (RLTF / RLTFT5).

Thanks heaps mate glad you appreciate it.
The short legs were organised by the sales guy I bought the rack from. He basically ordered them as a separate part along with the regular large ones that come in the kit and swapped them in at the install. Then kept the longer legs for other installs that they would normally do.
From my purchase invoice the short leg part number is RLTP (Track and fixed mount low) is the description.
You would also need “VW T5 Heavy Duty Bracket C341” for the bottom of each leg if you do not have the roof channel system installed from factory.

                          • Thanks, much appreciated.

I wonder if I can get that C341 part ordered separately.. I'll make some enquiries.

                            • Evening Markee, great thread. Looks like you have put some time into this beast, great motivation for my build. You have set a high standard!
I have a T6 4 motion and am slowly following your path. We often cross paths around Williams Rd. Lately I've been in one of my business vans (18 Transit. I'm also a sparky, based in R'mond) but today I went north in the T6. It reminded me why I love it so much, hence why I'm back on this forum!

Howdy mate, thanks for the kind words. If you see me on the road definitely don't be shy to stop me to say hello and have a chat about our vans.

                                Cheers
