Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T6 Multivan DSG gearbox code

    Hi there,

I'm thinking about getting a new T6 and was wondering what DSG box they decided to mate with the ea288? Will be getting the TDI340 Comfortline I think, mainly due to the CRAZY pricing of the Highline.

TBH I really want the TSI but seems like VWA have done it again

    Thanks

    It's a DQ500.

Thanks trojon. So with the 600Nm torque limit rating, is that limited by software or mechanics?

The engine's output is limited by software. You can easily buy remaps or chips that will add up to 50% to the output of a TDI400, for example. But why would you? It's a van.

The DSG's input is limited by the manufacturer's specification. Again, you can buy remaps which assert that they will enable higher inputs. But why bother if its input rating vastly exceeds the engine's output.

I think the purpose of a DSG remap is to make the gearbox more tractable (change shift points, activate 1st at low speeds etc), rather than to participate in drag races.

If you are wondering whether it's a reliable DSG, my research is that it is a very good unit - unlike the DQ200 and 250 in some installations. I've only done 15,000k with it so far in a new T5, but I like it.
