Is the ignition switch for the Aussie t4 the same as the euro version? This is the switch behind the barrel mechanism.

It should be, it's a commonly used switch throughout the vw range. Fairly cheap from the aftermarket suppliers here. Just try to get a branded one, as the cheaper versions are known to fail regularly.
Modify a small Phillips head screwdriver to create a 90 deg bend. This will allow you access to the screw that holds it in the barrel without removal of the barrel etc. All in it's about 20 mins work.
What symptoms do you have?

Thanks Bug_racer for the link. I checked the VW price & it was $82.25. I have read on the T4 Forum that some of the after market switches
don't last very long. After I ordered one I was wondering if it was made in china. Part arrived today & it's in genuine part packaging, made in Spain. As mine in the van is original & the switch has a limited life, it is cheap enough to have on hand to have as a spare.
Price as shown in link is $16.45 + $7.45 postage.
With the age of the T4, one never knows when the switch will be NLA & we will be forced to fit non genuine, hopefully a long way off.Last edited by jets; 29-02-2016, 03:55 PM.Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
