Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T5 tailgate lock

Hi guys, the rear central locking on my 08 t5 has died and I have to use the key now, it seems to be the actuator, is there a simple fix to this or an aftermarket replacement? My local vw yard (who I hear only bad things about) wants my left kidney as payment to fix this. Apparently it is a common fault?

Any help and time taken to point me in the right place would be great!

    Aaron.

If it is just dodgy solders in the actuator it should be repairable. How handy are you at pulling things apart?

Fairly handy.. Particularly soldering, its part of my job.

However I can hear it actuate, it sounds alot like the nylon teeth are stripped?

It could be that if the solders are dry for some of the micro switches the Comfort module wont know if the door is locked, unlocked open or closed. Might be worth stripping it down and reflow the solders. Worst case it doesn't work anyway

If its not that can anyone link me to a replacement module?

parts@kdvw might be able to help you out with a price for a genuine actuator. I'm not sure of any over seas suppliers for these.
