  • 2.5L or 2L for T4?

    Hi van people...

im seriously considering getting a t4..

Im currently looking at a manual caravelle (need seats). I was keen to get a diesel but they seem to be relatively rare.

    So...

if i was to get a petrol.. what are the pros/cons of the 2 and 2.5 litre engines? I hear the 2L is tough, but does the extra cylinder spoil the show?

most second hand vans have around 250K on the clocks.. are there any major issues at this point?

btw.. sorry if this is a repost.. please direct me to the correct thread!

    cheers

    Mike

    T4 2.0 Petrol

We have had ours for 10 years and, altho' it's a bit gutless, it's very economical and we still enjoy the vehicle. About 135k on the clock as it's mainly used for camping trips. Problems..... we've had a few - ongoing electrical issues & silly mechanical issues eg: 2 thermostats, oil pressure switch ( BIG oil leak! ), difficulty sourcing fan belts with correct pitch, imperial brake sizes ( WTF? ) Still a good drive and would buy another if we had to replace it - no regrets!

The Green T4 is 2.0L. 145Kms and absolutely no problems. Here in Sth Aust. that gets me 4 cyl rego, $100 per year less than the 5 cyl 2.5.

It wouldn't pull a drunken sailor off your sister, but it taken everything I've asked it to do.

I shouldn't think you would have much problem in NSW. Trakka would have made a few of these?

Just take your time, there are plenty of what you're looking for out there. Patience Grasshopper.

Check out Autohaus at Thornleigh.......they always have a few T4s there. Mind you they always have T4's at a premium but it's a start.

They did make 2L caravelles ,mate.

2L is the pick of em in my opinion. Early vans, pre 96 dont have a coded key, so less to break.

no power steering in the early ones , which can be lived with but is a bit of a pain. but the motor also doesnt have an extra pump to spin = more power
