Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

VW knows this is a problem and your service centre should of informed you a modified cover is available and needed to be fitted at the last service. The way I see this the fault lies with both the dealer and VW,call vw customer service and ask for a case number ....BUT MOST OF ALL YOU MUST STATE THIS VAN IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE you should have been informed of known issues through TPI's and given the option to retro fit the improved item.....I know of many engines that have been covered with VW at no cost to the customer.DO NOT GO IN AND ADMIT LIABILITY....be prepared to fight by sighting the well documented issue world wide surrounding the timing belt failure. If this is a factory dealer who serviced you 2 months ago they should know better.....feel free to call me on 02 96792900

Valves are not the only issue as the camshaft itself twists, new cylinder head may be required......just ask upon disassembly if the engine needed to be rotated to allow access to cylinder head bolts....if so cams are twisted

I might have just had the same belt snap on my 2011 T5 Multivan? Got a pic in my thread next to yours about power steering, not sure about engine damage as I was driving, belt snapped and I lost power steering, engine was still running but I pulled over and turned it off. Getting it looked at on Monday.

Well the dealer inspected and diagnosed it and the outcome is that VW are fixing it at their cost, new head, valves, cams, belts and the updated timing cover.
So fingers crossed it won't happen again! All I can say is keep an eye on your alternator belt and if you have this problem go see your dealer, VW are aware of the problem
Hope to have it back tomorrow.

                  Brilliant news.
Bit then again you expect a car to last longer that it did.

Hi all new to this forum and tapatalk so bear with me. I bought a 2011 rok 2 months ago. 80 000ks on the clock. About a month ago the serpentine belt shreded itself and the car stalled. Towed it back to the dealer and left it on there doorstep. I found out after much research that mine had the old timing belt cover, the belt entered the crankshaft and caused the timing belt to jump 9 teeth. All valves are bent. Crazy stuff.

They offered to fix it on powertrain warranty, but not all parts would be covered. After much more research I discovered that under acl (australian consumer law) this is considered to be a "major failure" long story short lol. This means im entitled to a full refund, replacement car, or an engine replacement. The dealer didnt argue this point. We have negotiated a 2nd hand motor to go in with a 12 month warranty . I like this idea as it is peace of mind. And I love the hell out of my rok!

Hope this helps anybody in the same position as it is scary as hell.
