T5 Double offroad
Hi Guys, I have been running the short gear set for some years now and for a work vehicle T5 in Australia V W should offer them as a recommended option, Marvellous for towing and for Off Road - instead of 1800 rpm in 6th @ 100 Kph now is 2000 rpm per 100 K on 225 x 75-R 16 (could even take the next Dia up)- never need to slip the clutch in 1st it just goes - mine is a 2005 Tdi 5 cyl 2.5 - I find in town on a down hill start it can be done in 2nd gear, I did fit them in personally myself 'but a lot of work' - and a Seikel Snorkel - before all this I converted rear diff to Diff-Lock - I can only use it manually,(not computer controlled as factory) I also swapped my coils for airbags some time ago. I have a Matilda pop-top slide-on camper when needed.Originally posted by progen77 View PostHi Bruce,
Yeah there is only a 10% shortening on gears 3-6, 18% on gears 1-2. I drive like a granny most of the time anyway, so I'm not too concerned about highway speeds.
Trakka only had good reports on the gear ratio change.
Re cost, I'd imagine as a distributor Wolf4x4 might get a bit or a lot of a discount on the retail price. I know that is how it works in my industry (sometimes ~60%).

Interested to know how you like the airbags and where you got them? My concern is being punctured by stones on gravel roads. But I do like the idea of being normal ground clearance most of the time but lift them for off bitumen roads.Originally posted by T5 Double off road View PostI also swapped my coils for airbags some time ago. .
Thanks

I was running 225/75 r16 tyres and have gone back to a smaller option as I was never off road and was towing a bit.
I have the 6 speed manual so don't know if auto would be different
With larger tyres
I was pretty unhappy with performance so had a remap. Improved it a lot but low down had nothing and then boost would come on like a powerband. Great fun but not good for towing.
Pretty bad economy around 12l/100km
Changed to 215/60 r16 (smaller than standard)
Power is smooth all through rev range. Motor feels free/effortless
Towing is massively improved
now getting sub 10l/100km
So if I could get a cheap way of reducing diff ratios I would bang the big tyres back on until then I don't thick they will see the light of day.
Unbelievable difference
