Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Temperature/coolant light coming on, fan not switching on, coolant and oil levels ok

Hi guys just wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on this for me before I send her in to get checked:
The temperature light has come on (for the first time) on my 89 Caravelle, yet the actual temperature gauge wasn't out of the cool section before this happened.
Today the actual gauge got up to about half or just past with the light going again also, although the cooling fan didn't come on at all which I found strange if it was hot.

Coolant and oil levels are both fine, fan fuse isn't blown but that's as far as my knowledge goes. I have read some bits about the temperature prong in the resivoir tank possibly being the problem but just thought i'd check with you all and see if anyone has had a similar problem of some tips on what I might do.

    thanks!
