Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T5 2011 manual geqrbox oil

I have 67000 on my 011 model t5 4motion duel cab, I have allways had it serviced as per requirements. I am concerned that they never mention changing the gearbox oil, should this be done? And can I do it myself.

Are the bolts easy to access? If I can do it myself what is the best oil I can use, grade ect ect, and how many ltrs should I need.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Volkswagen says G052171A2 oil, but doesn't mention a viscosity.

    Liqui-Moly says it'll take a GL4-grade 75W-90, and you'll need 2.7L.

Drain and fill plugs are easy to get at. Drain is on the bottom, filler is on the front side, between the gearbox and radiator fans.

That original oil is very low viscosity, lower than A/T fluids. I use Penrite SinGear70.
