Son rings me this morning to tell me smoke was billowing from the dashboard of his 97 T4 2.5 petrol manual van , instrument lights were coming on and the speedo was flickering . So he stops at his girlfriends house and leaves it there , so after work I go to the van and carefully look around under the dash fuse box and steering column no burnt wires whew ! So remove the instrument cluster and still no burnt wires just a very stinky cluster housing . Plugged it back in and start the van no more smoke but every thing on the van is still working ie indicator lights are working but the battery light is on and the speedo is stuck at 30kph tacho still at zero temp is at half and fuel full . So trip to wreckers or does someone have a cluster that might suit an ACU code engine Thanks Howard
PS any one have any idea why it tried to self immolate ?
