  • 2.5 TDI Crankshaft tool?

As I have received my timing belt kit from the UK I began looking into the crankshaft tool and I found this on eBay.

I'm thinking this maybe an easier solution than trying to make one especially for the price...

    I have a 3/4" breaker bar already.

Has anyone used one of these? - TIA

Stuff making things like this when you can buy it.

If you sell the van, sell the tool and re-coup some money.

I haven't used one but it looks OK. I presume the hole in the centre will fit your 3/4 drive 27mm socket. You may have to weld a long bar to the one side to restrain the pulley, a breaker bar won't do it. Until you have done one it's hard to imagine how tight it needs to be done up.I had to fit a piece of pipe over the 3/4 L handle that I used & the same over the long handle on the tool. Mine had previously had been changed at a garage & when undoing it I knew immediately that it hadn't been done up correctly.
Check postage costs if you buy from Germany. I have seen these on EbayUK where from my experience the postage is more reasonable.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

        Thanks Jets.
Yes you're quite correct about postage charges.
German postage charges are often somewhat exorbitant compared to the UK.
I'll check some UK eBay sellers out and see if I can find a tool that will do the job.

Just letting you know thats not the tool, one you need is similar but wraps onto the block for support, i use the same type for the audi quattro, exact same lock portion in the pulley, so i welded an extension so it sits on the subframe when loosening and still fits the old Audis, yep there is still a couple around. Its the experience thats lacking, anyway you will need it to hold really well as the crankbolt is mega tight especially if the guy before put loads of locktite on, the threads are fine and lock to the you know what.
Otherwise you will need a really good compressor, short thick hose, and a really good gun, mark the bolt with white out and the pulley at the same time that way you can see the bolt shift. You MUST renew bolt and watch just incase there is a shim behind the pulley, depends on what length lot you have and age of machine
          Cheers

You are probably refering to VW special tool 3248A that was specified for the 2.4 AAB engine. The ACV engine uses T10025. Here is my version of the tool.

Thanks for the refresher when you have done it for 20+ years you can mix it up a bit, regardless the op tool wont do the job as well, the one i made ended up similar to the one you show but still fits the old Audis if you are sick enough to tackle them, yep dying breed same as time served seasoned techs. Thast tool you show has a nice bit of length there to rest on the subframe, Then lean on that crank bolt
              Have fun
