Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Multivan Servicing

I have a 2011 multivan T5 diesel and i am trying to establish two things with my servicing.
I all started when I booked in for a 30,000 km service and was quoted $720.
I asked why so much and they told me they need to replace the pollen filter and brake fluid as well.
I said to them that my service book said every 60000 km for pollen filter and first brake fluid change after three years.
They told me thats wrong and its every 30000 for pollen filter and every two years for brake fluid replacement.

Can anyone tell me who is right, or is the service provider trying to stitch me up?

The dealer should have the latest info on the servicing shedules and I have to say they should be right and your owner's manual was updated since you've bought your van.

Also it's more common for the brake fluid to be replaced every 24 months regardless of the km. Cabin filter is 30,000km/24 months as well.

Sounds expensive to me. I see no reason why a Multivan is more expensive to service than a Transporter.
          My 30,000km service on a 2011 Transporter was $579.

Which dealer quoted you that price?

We had our 30k service performed by a VW mechanic in Sydney for $350.

Do you have to take the vehicle to the main dealer to maintain the warranty on a new multivan or is there a cheaper option? Does anyone know a good place in Perth or surrounds?

No you don't have to, as long as your service is done to VW standards with the OEM parts used, you're fine and your warranty can't be voided.
Just make sure you keep the good record of all work done.
