  • T5 Cargo Barrier Question

    Hi everyone.
Haven't been on here in ages.
But I've just bought a second hand LWB T5 4Motion. Haven't picked it up yet.
When I negotiated the deal they agreed to fit a genuine towbar and cargo barrier for me.
Today they informed me that the towbar is in stock but the genuine cargo barrier won't arrive until late Sept/Oct.
They said I can take the van back to get the barrier fitted when it arrives (4 hour drive each way) or they can fit a non-genuine barrier before I pick it up.
So my questions to this knowledgable Forum are:-
What is the difference between the genuine an non-genuine barriers?
For non- genuine barriers, is there a choice/preference of brands?
Is either type of barrier able to be fitted with an air barrier as well?
Is the dealer just trying to get me to settle for a cheaper option?

Any other thoughts on the barriers and/or motor bike restraints systems for the cargo area would be welcome as well.

    Regards
    Coop

I have the aftermarket brand Motexion fitted....and I love it. The cabin is quieter, the heating and air cond. is not trying heat/cool the whole van.

      Wow.
I had no idea that something like this was available. Is it expensive?

I have a cargo barrier original just taken out of my new T5, it's got a few dents in it, see gumtree. I am in Balgowlah Sydney.
PM me for a price, ignore the one on the advert!
        Cheers

Yeah, it does look good. I'll post some pics when I get it. I got the Motexion flooring too.
Jan from Motexion is a great guy to deal with, highly recommended.

I picked up the van in Thursday.
Jan from Motexion fitted the barrier and flooring for me before I picked it up. Thank mate if you're ever reading this.
I'm really happy with the Motexion stuff. The bulk head barrier is especially good. It isolates the sound from the cargo area really well.
Hers a few pics for those that are interested.

                      Lookin good.
The only other item I would recommend, is some protection for the upper rear panels.
My rear panels were the same as yours........until a trolley I had in the back fell over when I went around a corner, and it put a nice dent in the upper panel.
The next day I ordered full height panels from VW. IMO, these vans should come with full height panels from the factory.

Thanks Oldercoops. You're welcome to come and have a look anytime.

And thanks for the suggestion on the upper panels IN2VWS. I'll look into that.
I'm also pondering some way to attach some tie down points up higher. Have you got any ideas on that. I guess I'd have to secure some "D" rings to the pillars somehow.

                            That height might do.
Does it just screw in with self tapping screws?

No, There is 10 screw holes in each bar. I used M6 rivnuts/nutserts.
