T4 TDI performance upgrade

Hi guys,

Its great to find a Forum for VW's in Aus, I would like to intro myself before asking a question..

I have been a VW owner for many years, started with a T4 2.5 petrol about 10 years ago, since then I have had many cars some fast ones... Audi RS4 and E46 M3 as well as some slower ones X5 4.8 (no really slow) but now due to my needs I have a T4 2.5 TDI LWB Syncro van, its awesome too and when I got it I realised how much I missed having a van.

My van is a bit special with a Projekt Zwo body kit and Audi TT 17's, I lowered it a bit and now am very happy with the looks (needs a bit of attention here and there but i will get to that as time permits)

Right now I am keen to get the performance sorted, It goes well but after driving a T5 TDI I want to try and bridge the gap a little...

Does anyone here have experience with upping the performance of the 2.5TDI?

Any suggestions and costings?

It is certainly do-able.....it can be chipped, fitted with bigger intercooler, boost pressures increased, turbo upgraded, injector nozzles upgraded, diesel gas conversion.....

If you are aware of someone who can re-map the ECU then the injector nozzle upgrade has great potential...basically fit bigger diameter nozzles, adjust idle fuelling and then remap. Lads in the UK are seeing 30% increases in power with this method.....for under a grand (equiv) investment.

I think there are a couple of issues doing this in Oz - one is finding someone to do the map, the other is managing the upgrade with the the stock intercooler.....but the .206 nozzles are easily available!! http://www.kermatdi.com/servlet/-str...INT-764/Detail

Im Rob and over here in the Uk We have taken the vans down the Project Power route.

My van has been taken to 145bhp.
Basic set up is larger nozzels then onto a rolling road for a live remap.
If you fit the nozzels on there own your van will look like German battle ship when right foot is pressed.
After rollingroad Its like having laffing gas in the van.
I am emergrating to OZ in the new year and was thinking would it be poss to redo this out there because drivinga 102bhp van seems very slow on pick up after driving mine(and some people get more from theres).

Ok, so it seems reasonable to bull another 40-50hp from the 2.5. Anyone know who can do the remap here in Aus??

CPU chip requires soldering apparently, not just a pull and replace job.

hello down there
a lot can be done to the tdi, but if you want to keep it simple and in a budjet, simply change the nozzles, i did it to my van and you should have seen my smile when i went back on the road
i used the 4 cylinder AFN ones, they have 5 holes of 0.205 mm.
you can then go another few steps, 0.216mm from the 150 hp van, and so on.
the first nozzle will already wake up the van, the other steps require some chipping to up the boost pressure.

Thanks for the info guys, I live in Europe for 9 months a year so I think I will get onto the UK sites and grab a set of the larger nozzles and bring them back when I come back later in the year.

It will need a retune by the sound of things to get the most of the change.

Should be a good mod
