i have an 05 128 t5, which runs well, but chuggs out alot of diesel smoke. the tailgate is allways sooty. is this normal, and if not, is there something to look for or some modification to lessen it.
any advice greatly appreciated
eric
Without seeing it it's hard to say exactly what causes it, but look at these first;
Air filter, make sure you use the good quality diesel (not contaminated), find someone with VCDS cable to scan for any fault codes. Use the injector cleaner in the tank to clean the injectors.
How many km's the van have done?
Was the van always serviced on time and with the VW approved VW506.01 oil?
I use Moreys Smoke Killer in my T5 almost from new and have a minimum of soot and almost no soot on tail gate even if I don't wash the van for several weeks.
the car has only done 105k, uses castrol vw oiland unfortunately i don't know of anyone who can check for any fault codes other than my closest dealer.
would a provent help, and is it possible/common to blank off the EGR pipe?
