Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Highline Auto-Door Problem

The passenger side sliding door on my 06 Highline is not closing all the way automatically. It seems that the pinch protection mechanism is kicking in with only a few inches to go and re-opening the door. I can get it to close with a little manual persuasion.

    The problem is intermittent.

There are no visible obstructions in the tracks. Any ideas?

Ditto here bluefin, but mostly when the van is on an incline left or right
I just give it a helping hand on the odd occasion

I have had this on occasion but it comes good. As mentioned it happens most on odd angles.

Maybe have a look at the condition of the sensor strip? Does it work if you lightly press against the door from the outside, as it could be movement in the track (roller bearing etc that has play in it)

Rub your hand up and down the contact strip a few times, and re-test.

You'll also find that if there's a fault in the system, the light in the switch on the dash for that door will flash.
