  • They took away my blue baby

Put the key in the ignition on Sunday and all the displays went out.
    Seems the battery has died.
Rang VW Assist today. They came within the hour, but the battery the guy brought could not turn the engine over, so he backed his truck up and on she went.
I'm away tomorrow and Wednesday, so hopefully all will be OK on Thursday.
All for a flat battery ...

There's certainly been no suggestion of charging for the service, but time will tell. And, yes, I do hope this is the only time I see blue baby towed.

          Hi Shougan2,
The battery in my T5 went too, some 4 months ago. So I think that original battery will not really last much longer than 2-3 years.
Dealer replaced it under 3 years warranty. So, when tha battery is 2 years old I will look for better alternative.

The warning sign from my battery was that it took longer to start especily after the weekend.

Thanks for the info. I suppose I just didn't expect it to need to be towed away for a battery replacement.
Due to work commitments I have only been driving the T5 on the weekends, so it's been sitting unused for periods of time. I certainly haven't had any issues in starting when I've tried, so the battery failure came as a big surprise.

Sometimes batterys will just "drop" a cell which will create a massive resistance in the battery and it will not produce any power at all.

5 years out of a stocko battery is extremely good. I have people with astra's and vectras replacing there stock batterys after less than 2 years!

Solitaire mechs were working on the car today (why has it taken three days for them to get to work checking the battery?). They found the DP chip. Will be interesting - from the sound of the enquiry they may try to pin the blame on the DP chip for drawing too much juice. Interesting times ahead. Will keep everyone informed.

Easy. It's a warranty claim. No profit in it and as VW won't rush to pay then they won't rush to repair.

Baby (elephant) will be ready to pick up later today.
They have blamed the fault on a faulty door sensor they identified last service (4 months ago) that they have been waiting on parts to replace. So they have been "pushed" to finally replace the sensor - will see how it all goes.
