Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Removing headrests on seat/bed

    Hi

I have a 2011 T5 campervan with a dual rear seat/bed, which has push-button flip-down headrests. Very neat but a pain on a big holiday because the folded headrests are exactly where I want to put hobby boxes of gear (when I fold the backrest down to become the bed). It would be much simpler if I could remove the headrests for such journeys (and refit on return).

I've looked up Elsawin and removed the trim clips and seatbelt guides as instructed. Elsawin says just pull off the trim, and expect more trim clips here and there, but there's something much more solid. It feels like the top of the rear trim is screwed solidly to the metal top of the seat belt guide. I can't see how and Elsawin doesn't mention any other mounting.

    Any clues?

    Thanks a mil

    Peter

Don't panic ... no need to rush ... I figured it out.

In case anyone needs to know in the future, the rear seat trim is securely held at the belt guides ... but not by bolts or screws ... just by plastic prongs that lock onto the metal belt guide. No amount of pulling will help ... and might damage the plastic card. But a little shove against the plastic prong (from the front of the seat) with a screwdriver will release them ... after which the card simply falls to the ground.

Now I can remove the seat runner caps ... so that the seat will go far enough forward ... to enable the horizontal headrest bar to be slid out through the sliding door. Without the bar, the headrests falls to the floor ... and can be put back after our 5-month trip.

Oh, and I'm also going to make the underseat drawer lockable ...
