My T5 128kw 6sp broke down today, no drive to front wheels, i put it into any gear and all you get is a grinding noise. not saw if it is a cv or drive shaft, hopefully the gearbox is ok. Has anyone had the same problem?

rule of thumb when you hear a grinding sound its c/v or possible diff more the former. Auto t5's have been very good in comparison to T4 auto's ...dont panic get it checked first....could be c/v bolts loosened and broken and the drive shaft rubbing against the drive output at gearbox....when a auto poos itself there is no noise..just no drive 95% of the time....these are a great bus hope its only a minor set back cheers steve

Did you hear any noise or any other indication that your drive had problems

Droped the T5 off at Denlo's, they rang me to say the left front drive shaft has destroyed itself. Putting in acclaim under warranty but i have 117ks, 33 months old. Will see if they agree or not

Have a look at consumer legislation. Consumer legislation varies in States etc and it states that just because your out of warrant does not mean it is not warranty covered. It is all about what is expected of the device that is being claimed, basic story is - Is it expected that the gearbox will last longer than 3 years, if so then you may have a claim, the simple fact that car companies offer 5 year warranties certainly indicates that they expect gearboxes and other parts to last at least 5 years, otherwise they would not offer the 5 year warranties, but any way in one form or another it is a legal matter and there can be all sorts of hassles with those in terms of time and money, let alone an outcome.
