  • Getting a Towbar fitted to 2005 Multivan

    Hi everyone,
just wondering what the possible options are for getting a tow bar fitted to a 2005 Multi Van. About 12 months ago I got a quote from the local VW dealer for $800. Went in last week and the quote is now $1400, according to the dealer 5 hours labour is involved. I approached a local towbar retailer (hayman reece) they could only find a reference to a T5.
Is the T5 towbar suitable for a MVan. Is the wiring of the loom etc something that a non VW dealer could do ?

    any help would be appreciated

I haven't seen the wiring loom fram Hayman reece, but the genuine loom is plug'n'play. No wire cutting or splicing is required.
It is a PITA though, if you have parking sensors, ESP etc. Then the wiring has to run back to the dashboard for those extras, and requires some VAGCOM programming.
On my first T5, I fitted it myself......After that, I gladly paid VW to fit the next one. Without the proper tool to get the clip out (for the rear bumper and around the taillights), it is a **** job. It is not rocket science, just fiddley and time consuming.

smitsone, ring Alistair at Melbourne Towbars on 1800244880
He fitted one, with his own loom, on my 2006 Multi year or so ago
Similar price to your first quote
      Works a treat
He might be able to put you onto someone in your area

Hi, I'm in same boat. Have a 2010 Multivan and quoted $1500+ to have towbar! The dealer says they fit a Hayman Reece but I can only find reference to a T5 Transporter (2730RW). I latch on to any other Multivan driver I meet but unfortunately haven't found yet that has one fitted in Brisbane. Help!

There is no difference in towbars between the Transporter and Multivan.
