  • Multivan oil level sensor not connected and I cant figure out why!

    Hi All

Today I performed a service on our 2005 Multivan and when I removed the tray and cloth stuff from under the sump I noticed the sensor on the sump that is the oil level sensor simply wasn't connected. It was not as though the connector had come loose and just needed plugging in, there wasn't a wire at all! I checked everywhere for the loose bit of loom and expected that maybe at the last dealership service someone had made a mistake and forgot to connect it maybe but no, for the life of me I could not locate the wires.

    Its a 2005 2.5tdi AXE 4 motion

You'd think the VCDS would give a fault code but it doesn't, you'd think there may be a fault light on the dash but there isn't.

so, A. does anyone know where the wire from the sensor goes (ie, up the drivers side and into the same bit of loom as something else (so I can start to work backwards to see if it's looped and cable tied somewhere I didn't see) or if some prat at the dealership has cut the loom completely.

Or is this a common thing to have a sensor that is not connected? perhaps the AXE doesn't have the sensor and at some point a new sump was fitted off a non-AXE engine which needed the sensor to block a hole in the sump but didn't need to be connected.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    It's normal.

One sump, two different spec levels. The sensor is just there to plug the hole.
