I just had the Kenwood DNX7320 installed. Unit cost $1850 from Audiocomm.

VW Installation is easy as kenwood supply VW installation notes and kit.

Does everything. Has navigation, reversing camera etc. Plays iPod Classic videos to rear roof mount monitor in T5 Kombi Beach.

It is easier to get the kids into the Van and once we are moving it keeps kids very happy.

      Hi unemployed

(hey am i doing something wrong)

we had the Kenwood installed too pretty happy except the sat nav goes on some stupid routes to get to the final destination??, dammed if i can figure it out.

love the hands free phone set up and ipod though
with the Cbus etc. do you have it running (radio etc) on accessories as well?
as before the radio would run with key in ignition but the Kenwood doesn't.

        kenwood

The VW supplied radio worked with and without the key in the ignition. The Kenwood in dash unit still has power (flashing security led) but will not operate unless key is in auxillary position or the engine is running?

The overhead monitor has been wired up to run off the second battery and I must remember to power it off after watching a film.

I will be asking audiocomm for a fix so kids can watch films at night in the back without leaving the key in the ignition. I certainly don't want the kids starting up the van if they get bored with the film.

You can pick up ACC at the IGN switch, Brown/Green stripe or install a CAN BUS adapter at the head unit for ACC, HAND BRAKE, SPEED SENSE.

Thanks 95vr6, the Brown with the green stripe did it! thanks now i can stop the motor and still have the radio/ipod on, the switch will be handy we can be away from the car without key in IGN. unemployed might like that idea so the kids don't take off and leave him stranded. thanks again

ps how come the pictures disappear ? then they are back again??

                Keyless operation of DNX7320

Audiocomm have offered to fix my problem of running the DNX7320 without key in the ignition by putting a switch to power on/off the head unit (free of charge).

I must say the Kenwood is looking good and performing very well. Because the large dash area below the windscreen is very exposed to sunlight ( and satellite) the antenna was ok to install inside the dash near the front of the windscreen. The satellites are located very quickly. The downside of the big windscreen is the sunlight does often strike the lcd screen. I am tempted to keep a bit of black cardboard handy to wedge in at the top of the unit to provide shade. Any ideas on dash modifications that would reduce the sunlight on the screen would be appreciated.

I've got the same issue with my 2DIN Alpine. I'm playing around with some plastic sheet (ex A4 folder) to make a cowl. If I ever get a shape I'm happy with, I'll rework it in fibreglass... Not all that happy with how the Alpine does not sit flush with the fascia either

I made one up from an A4 folder , black and just bent it a bit to suit. it just slides in at the top when i need to have it, i don't use it all the time mainly around midday is the worst with the kenwood you can tilt the screen forward too.

                      dnx7320 connected to second battery

The dnx7320 head unit and over head monitor both now run from the second battery in the Kombi Beach. This is going to work very well. Even if I do forget to power of I will still be able to start the car next day.

If I get a chance over easter to stay in one spot for a few days I may find out how long I can run the ICE before needing the second battery to recharge.

This always on configuration also allows my son to input destination check current location or investigate alternative routes without having the key in the ignition.

I am currently looking at Garmin Roadtrip on the macintosh. I will be trying to get Shonky Topo maps on the DNX7320.

I know Garmin have released a Garmin topo map on SD card and I might try that if I can work out how to get the wife to sign the delivery slip.

Shonky maps on a new SD card works on the DNX7320. I just swap the SD card when I get to the gravel roads.
