  • Got our my12 t5 90000 service done $511.59 oil was $152.15 included was an air filter at $39.99.
They did find an oil leak at the right hand drive shaft, fixed under warranty. Ended up with a new shaft and seal, took two visits, but they were up front and good about it all. I use the local Toowoomba dealer for this van as still covered by warranty, thankfully.

      depends which vehicle you've got.
      2.5 T5(dunno about 1.9's or 5.1's)
fronts are relatively easy with basic tools
rears, piston needs to screw back due to hydraulic handbrake, then fit new pads

      • All T5s have virtually the same brakes on the rear. May be variances and discs, though.

Not overly difficult to do, if you've played around with calipers that require the pistons to be wound in, but certainly not a 5 minute job.

When you (anyone) make claims, please don't post the rubbish.
I think you'll find it was a figure of speech rather than quoting an absolute time.

For the life of me I can't understand why dealer / workshops don't just tell the customers the remaining pad thickness and ask when they were last changed. Without knowing how hard the driver is on brakes you can't even begin to estimate the remaining life.

eg: I have 4mm left on my rear pads (50% worn?) & 7mm on the front (60% worn). The cars done 150,000km. How much life do I have left in the pads? (rhetorical question Miro)

I'm sure he said the job took him under 5 minutes per wheel, so, if it's not quoting of an absolute time then what is?

            • Putting the pad thickness or wear percentage down on paper is just an ar$e-covering exercise.

In reality, unless you spefically state that the pads or rotors are pretty much worn out, any figure you state is pretty much meaningless to the average car user.

It's a figure of speech implying it was a fairly quick job. We all know it takes more than 5 minutes just to get the car hovering & a wheel off. It's like all those people that complain about the cost of a basic service because "it only takes 10 minutes to do an oil change & filter".

You must really get peeved when you go to a popular Yum-Cha & queue up and the seating person says "Table ready 5 minutes". You know she doesn't mean 5 minutes - she means 30 minutes

Did you ask them to replace the DSG oil filter also? Because they will not do it unless you ask for it to be changed.

                      • Yep they changed the DSG filter

                        • Synpower is Valvoline engine oil.

I'm assuming the $1200 is dealer pricing?

                            Cheers bud.

Yeh dealer pricing. Don't think I'll go dealer again now that my warranty is up.

Can most mechanics reset the service milage on the dash so it displays how far until next service? Or is a VW dealer program needed?

                            • I can reset them with a cheap handheld scanner.

I'd assume others can as well.

you don't want "most mechanics". You want somebody that has a clue. There must be somebody up that way (maybe Tweed Heads or Byron?)
