Squeal at idle

Hi, Im wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms ?

I have a 2005 T5 1.9lt turbo diesel Transporter.
It has started to squeal like a bad bearing or dry bearing at idle/low revs.Once you accelerate it goes away.Im almost certain its not a fan belt though it does have a similar noise.It could be a bearing in the belt tensioner or something.
It doesnt blow any smoke or anything.
Ive done 108,000 kms.

Any ideas on what it might be would be appreciated.

I have a similar problem on my 2005 2.5 TDI Multivan.
The noise comes from the bottom drivers side from what I can work out.
My noise only appears when you accelerate away from a stand still.
I am sorry it does not help with your problem but thought we both might get some help at the same time.

I used to have that on a golf once and was cured with belt dressing on the fan belt. Not the same car, but a similar problem.

Todays results are that its either the belt tensioner pully bearing or the alternator clutch bearing which is part of the clutch pully assembly.
Either way im booked in to get the full job done now as its almost time for the timing belt/water pump etc done whilst its all apart.So its better and cheaper to do it in one go.
Í'll confirm the exact fault when its fixed.
A bit of wallet torture involved here too i suspect.haha i guess this is why we work.

Ok so it turned out it was the pully bearing on the alternator. Seeing as it was close to having the timing belt done i decided to get it all done while it was semi apart.Saves doing the job twice. So its a new water pump ,new tensioner ,new timing belt,new alternator pully,new fan belt and tensioner,coolent flush and new coolent plus a new small hose to the turbo as the bayonet type fitting on one side was broken/squashed probably during its removal.
$1800.00 but at least it wont be done again for another 100,000 kms. I HOPE !!
Ps the van is so quiet now and runs like a dream.
