Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'm in the same position now. My Waeco was cutting out and last week my GPS refused to charge from the MagPort socket in the driver's seat base. I measured the voltage - 5V!

Anyone conclude as to the best deep cycle battery that will fit in the spot? I need to find one in the next two days as I'm driving across to VIC & SA on Saturday.

I am currently investigating the Ritar RA12-120SD 12V 120Ah/20Hrs AGM
12V AGM SLA Sealed Deep Cycle Battery
      Diamentions: L=327, W=172, H=222

I think it will fit lying on its side, the only thing I haven't verified is whether the + & - terminals end up in the correct location when it is on its side. Assuming the terminals are upwards, (away from the floor) the original wiring should reach with suitable adaptors for the screw connectors.

I can get this one from Springers for $375 with a CMCA membership discount.

      Anyone used this battery?

There is no Century battery which fits, but AGM type battery would be a good compromise. I would also consider a smaller deep cycle battery, but of course it depends what you use it for. My 75AH deep cycle battery is more than enough to run 1000W inverter for a long time.

          N70T, Century Deep Cycle

This battery looks like it may just be a bit too tall. I'm going to stick a template to the side of the existing battery to check that the terminals will clear the seat underside. If it does clear, this could be the go.

I noticed the warranty. Any idea why so short? I've had a good run with Century batteries in the past.

EDIT: Gees I'm dopey. I just noticed the caps on top - it's a flooded battery. I was so focused on the dimensions I missed that detail.

The 200 tall (123 Ah) looks the go. I have to check that the cables will reach as the terminals are opposite hand.

EDIT the stock battery is 187 mm tall. Add the rubber cover and it is flush with the seat base at 190 mm. B_gger!!!

Is there a tray under the battery? I have a bench set and there was one, so I removed it, shortened the legs a bit to gain more space above.

I'll pull the battery out tomorrow morning. I've got it on charge at the moment.

You can fix wet cell batteries, so no need buy new

With the price of AGM deep cycling batteries these days, there's no point in trying to fix a stuffed wet cell, unless you want it for around home.
