t5 2.5 exhaust

has anyone replaced their muffler for a free flow one or no muffler at all?
if so, any difference to justify it other than more noise

I have not personally done it but have done some research and will be in the near future doing the following;

Re welding the exhaust manifold at the cracks,
removing the cat for striaight pipe,
95% certain of removing the centre resonator.

It helped me in my MKV TDI, without much increase in noise at all.
